Series of Printed Texts
Alden Library has complete sets of several standard series of texts and commentaries. Most of the volumes in these sets are located in the PA section of the 7th floor of Alden Library. The Oxford Classical Texts series, however, is in a separate location, in the Scholar's Room, the Very Quiet reading room on the 4th floor.
There are many other texts, translations, and commentaries--most in the PA section, although some for historians, philosophers, et al., are in the call number ranges for those disciplines.
- Bibliotheca Teubneriana LatinaA CD-ROM disk which provides access to Latin texts of antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. Requires Windows NT sp4, XP sp2, 2003 server; CD-ROM drive; Internet Explorer 6 or 7, or Firefox 1.5 or 2.0.
- Cambridge Greek and Latin ClassicsTexts and commentaries on works by a wide variety of Greek and Roman writers.
- Oxford Classical TextsOfficially, at least to library catalogs, known as Scriptorum classicorum bibliotheca Oxoniensis, this series of critical texts (no commentaries, no translations) covers most major works of Classical literature.
Online Texts
There are a number of good online sources for Classical texts. The first two listed below are the best starting places for high-quality texts. Check the others as needed.
Digital Loeb Classical LibrarySeries of texts and translations covering most of Classical literature. Many of the older, somewhat quaint translations have now been replaced by more modern versions. Here is a listing of the printed editions in our collection.- Library of Latin TextsThe Library of Latin Texts Online (LLTO) contains texts from the beginning of Latin literature (Livius Andronicus, 240 BC) through to the texts of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965).
- Classical Latin TextsTexts of most of Classical Latin literature, with both word search and concordance creation capabilities. An online version of what was previously available on CD-ROM from the Packard Humanities Institute.
- Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG)Comprehensive collection of Classical and Byzantine Greek texts.

- Digital Library of Late-Antique Latin TextsStill in early stages of development, this project "is planning to offer a complete database of late-antique Latin authors and works, as well as an exhaustive canon. Access to the canon and the database is free. The canon lists the critical editions on which the digital text is based; if the case, it also lists deviations from the critical text.'
