ArticlesPlus is an excellent place to start your research. It includes the contents of our two main databases for the study of theater, International Bibliography of Theatre & Dance, Performing Arts database (IIPA) and MLA International Bibliography.
Many of the databases below are not included in ArticlesPlus, so it's worth the time to have a look around.
- Academic Search CompleteAn article database indexing nearly 11,000 journals and magazines covering a broad range of fields.
- Avery Index to Architectural PeriodicalsA comprehensive index of journal articles published worldwide (1741 to the present) on architecture and design, archaeology, city planning, interior design and historic preservation. It covers more than 2800 sources, including international scholarly and popular periodical literature and the publications of professional associations, U.S. state and regional periodicals, and major serial publications in the architecture and design of Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Australia.
- Film & Television Literature Index with Full TextArticle database covering the entire spectrum of television and film writing, including film and television theory, preservation and restoration, writing, production, cinematography, technical aspects, and reviews. 1914-Current.
- International Bibliography of Theatre & Dance with full textJournal articles, books, book chapters and dissertation abstracts on all
aspects of theatre dance. - Music IndexIndex to music periodicals. Provides some full text.
- Oxford Art OnlineFormerly the Grove Dictionary of Art, this is the innovative new gateway into art research and the access point for Oxford art reference subscriptions and publications. Includes Grove Art Online, the Oxford Companion to Western Art, the Encyclopedia of Aesthetics and the Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms.
- Performing Arts Periodical DatabaseFull-text articles on dance, theatre, film and more. Scholarly and popular articles. AKA .International Index to Performing Arts IIPA
Databases that cover literature
- JSTOR - Journal StorageSearchable, full text source for scholarly journals in many fields. JSTOR does not include current content. Typically, the most recent three to five years of a journal are not available.
- Literary Reference Center (LRC)Literary Reference Center (LRC) is a comprehensive literary reference database that provides a broad spectrum of reference information from antiquity to the present day. LRC is a completely full-text database that combines information from over 1,000 books and monographs, major literary encyclopedias and reference works, hundreds of literary journals, and unique sources not available anywhere else.
- Literature Criticism OnlineINCLUDES DRAMA CRITICISM:
Resource for getting a scholarly birds eye view of Writers, Genres, Movements, Literature; broken down by genre/time period. - Literature Resource CenterSTART HERE FOR BASICS ON AUTHOR/PLAY
Similar in nature (and in name!) to the preceding, this database also provides information on world literature from selected resources. Both are worth looking at. - MLA International BibliographyBibliographic information (beginning in 1926) for critical scholarly materials in literature, criticism, drama, language, linguistics, humanities, and folklore.
- Project MuseSearchable, full text source for over 400 scholarly journals in humanities, arts, and social sciences. Allows for RSS feeds or email journal alerts.
