Getting Started with Adobe Premiere Pro

If you’re new to Premiere Pro, this tutorial will guide you through the very first steps of starting a video-editing project.

Step 2: Set Up Your Project Folder & Settings

  1. On your computer (outside Premiere), create a dedicated folder for your project (for example: MyFirstEdit_Project).
  2. Inside that folder, create subfolders like: Footage, Audio, Graphics, Exports. This helps you stay organized.
  3. Back in Premiere Pro: go to File → Project Settings → Scratch Disks… and make sure the paths match your folder structure. Good practice prevents lost files later.
  4. Also check your footage’s frame rate, resolution and aspect ratio (for example 1920×1080 at 23.976 fps) so your sequence settings will match.
