Finding Children's Books

Alden Library Children's Collection

Alden Library has a small children's book collection on the 7th floor. This video shows you how to limit your search in ALICE. So, for example, if you wanted childen's books about Marie Curie, you would search for her name and limit the search to just items in the children's collection.

Books in the children's collection are arranged by Library of Congress call number, which lets you browse for works on a general subject area.

Award-Winning Books

You can find a list of award-winning book titles on the Association for Library Service to Children website, including the Pura Belpre Award, the Caldecott Medal and the Newberry Medal

The ALSC also offers a list of Notable Books for 2016 and past Notable Books lists from 1995-2015 on their website.

The Stonewall Book Awards list from the American Library Association, includes award and honor books in Children's and Young Adult Literature related to the LGBTQ experience.

Other Ways to Identify Books

If you want to read a children's book that is not in our collection, you can also look for copies via OhioLINK or Search Ohio. Both of these options will let you request copies from other libraries in the state of Ohio and have them delivered to Alden. The videos below show you how to go through this process:
