ML 3270J: Translation as Writing

Library Search Catalog

Through our Library Search Catalog, you can search more than 200 databases all at the same time, including:

  • All EBSCO databases that we have
  • All JSTOR journals that we have
  • Several newspaper databases
  • OHIO Library Catalog (books, videos, names of magazines, journals, and newspapers, and more)
  • ...and much more

The Library Search Catalog does not include everything. We subscribe to many other databases--including about two dozen from ProQuest--that are not included in the catalog. To find and use these, go to A to Z Databases -- or let us help you

Book-Length Critical Studies

The best way to find book-length studies of an author and his/her works is to do an Advanced Search in the Library Search Catalog for the name of the author (last name first) as a Subject.

Select Articles and More. Change Any Field to Subject. Enter the author's name. On the right change Material Type to books

On the left side search filter options, under the Subject dropdown, you can see all subjects relating to the author

Some things you may notice from these example results about Charles Baudelaire:

  • The first line is for books about Baudelaire in general. The other lines, with his name plus "subdivisions" (aspects of him as a subject), are worth looking at as well.
  • There are English translations for his work.
  • There are book-length critical studies of Baudelaire.
  • There are books specifically about one of his works, Fleurs du Mal.

Perusing these subject terms with their subdivisions can give you a good idea of how much we have about a particular author.

In most cases, books by an author (which you would locate by doing an Author search in Advanced Search) will be shelved in the same area as books about the same author. But not always: some books cover multiple authors and will be shelved in a different section of the collection.

If we don't have a copy of a book you're looking for (indicated by the phrase "Get it from other libraries,") Make sure to look at the record regardless. You can order books through OhioLINK from the system as well. There's a lot more to choose from, and borrowing books from OhioLINK is fast, free, and easy!
