- The Appalachian Studies Association maintains a list of relevant resources and publishes the Journal of Appalachian Studies (ASA membership or access via Ohio University logon required)
- The Digital Library of Appalachia contains digitized materials, including music, photograph, and a wide range of historic documents, from the special collections of member institutions of the Appalachian College Association.
- Established by an act of Congress in 1965, the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is a regional economic development agency that represents a partnership of federal, state, and local government.
- Appalachian Studies Web Resources: List of a number of excellent websites on various aspects of Appalachian Studies compiled by West Virginia University.
- Appalachian Voices: An activist site whose mission is "to solve the environmental problems having the greatest impact on the central and southern Appalachian Mountains. Our mission is to empower people to defend our region's rich natural and cultural heritage by providing them with tools and strategies for successful grassroots campaigns."
- Looking at Appalachia: An ongoing, crowdsourced online exhibition of photographs from all over the region.
- Appalachian History: "Stories, quotes, and anecdotes from Appalachia, with an emphasis on the 1880s to 1950s.

- Governor's Office of Appalachia: Website of the Ohio agency which "works to coordinate economic and community development and partnership endeavors to improve the lives of those living in the region."
- Appalachian Ohio County Profiles: Selected demographic and economic statistics associated with business and industry activity, and the amenities and services for 29 Ohio counties with their general location being along the Ohio River and the hill counties of Southeast Ohio.
