The resources below are useful for finding information about companies.
Most of the larger companies that make ice cream companies are large multinational corporations or they are subsidiaries of larger companies. As a result, it may be challenging to find specific information about companies in the industry.
- D&B Hoovers
Use for company profiles, news, analyst reports, SWOT analyses, executive information, company financials, and more. Note: If you have trouble logging in, try opening the link in an Incognito or Private browser window.
- You can use D&B Hoovers to find information about large public companies.
- Search for Unilever, Nestle, etc.
- Mergent Online
Contains extensive public company information including financials, filings, equity and industry reports, U.S. economic information, and much more. Information can be screened, selected, and downloaded.
- Search by company name to find information for large public companies.
- Search for Unilever, Nestle, etc.
- Note that this database is not very useful for brand or subsidiary information.
- Mergent Intellect
Use to find companies and competitors by user-defined search criteria, such as size, location, industry, sales, and more. Useful for private company information which includes estimated sales.
- Use the Advanced Search to search by Industry code to create a list of companies in the industry
- You can use this to build a list of companies or competitors by location.
- Suggested industry codes:
- SIC 2024 - Ice Cream Manufacturing
- SIC 511202 - Ice cream, soft drink, and soda fountain stand
- The video below shows how to use the above search strategy, using Coffee Shops as an example. You should be able to follow the steps with the codes above to retrieve a list of companies.
- Search for ice cream in the search box at the top of the Privco page. You will need to scroll down the list of auto-populated companies to find and select "Search all companies for ice cream"
- This will generate a nice list of some of the largest and most-interesting private companies in the ice cream industry
- Note that the amount of information and details available for each company will vary
- You can use the Filters to filter by financial information, number of employees, etc. to generate a more customized list
