Researching with Archival & Special Collections Primary Source Materials

Ohio University Libraries Digital Archives

If you're looking for a primary source and it's outside of our open hours or you're at a regional campus or you're unable for any reason to physically come to the Mahn Center, don't despair! We are always adding to our Digital Archives. The Digital Archives contains a small but ever-growing percentage of select materials from the various Mahn Center collections as well as from some other areas of the Libraries.

Read about our collections, exhibits, events, and other programming, collaborations, student perspectives into research and work with our collections, and much more on our Blog.

Select materials are also featured in our Digital Exhibits.

Searching

You can keyword search in the search box on the Digital Archives home page.

You can browse digitized materials by collection area: Manuscripts, Special Collections, University Archives, and Documentary Photography Archive.

Tips

  • Be on the lookout for Rights and Citation information in the individual item records. See more under the Citing archival & special collections materials tab in this guide.
  • Be on the lookout for a Transcript button, especially if you're looking at a handwritten document that is difficult to read.
  • Most material in our Digital Archives can be saved, printed, or downloaded. The digital files are the focal point, but always make sure to scroll down to the Item Description or Object Description to learn more and find the information you need to properly cite.
