Counseling transgender people: Three demonstrations (streaming)

In the fifth edition of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Psychiatric Disorders, the term "gender identity disorder" is replaced with "gender dysphoria," signifying that individuals who identify as transgender should no longer be viewed as disordered. Because of this, it is important for counselors and clinicians to become culturally competent in working with transgender and gender-nonconforming people. In this video, Dr. Nadal uses diverse approaches to work with three clients: (1) Jude, a Latino FTM (female-to-male) transgender man who describes some of his experiences with microaggressions in the workplace; (2) Ray, a white gender nonconforming person who discusses difficulties finding acceptance at home; and (3) Morena, a Filipina MTF (male-to-female) transgender woman, who shares her difficulty with dating and people's reactions to her transgender status.

Transgender stories (streaming)

This feature-length film features transgender individuals sharing their unique personal stories, and talking candidly about the challenges they encounter in their daily lives before, during and after transitioning, and how in the end they all strive to come to a place of acceptance and fulfillment. These stories transcend the gender binary and illuminate the beauty of gender diversity, and are sure to give you a new understanding of what it means to identify as transgender, transsexual or gender variant. This film was funded by the Minnesota Department of Health and is a product of the Program in Human Sexuality, Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota Medical School.

Transgender revolution (produced by Bill Kurtis)

Investigative Reports goes beyond ignorance and stereotypes for an intimate portrayal of the people who choose to change their sexuality. Among the unexpected, ferociously articulate characters we meet are a female-to-male transsexual who works for the Tampa sheriff's office, a male-to-female electrical designer who has hosted an MIT radio show called Gendertalk, and a Southern good-old-boy who we follow through his surgical transformation. The Transgender Revolution also examines the fast-growing movement to combat gender oppression, highlighting the nation's most notorious transsexual killings and a Congressional battle over including transsexuals in the Hate Crimes Act.

Transgender and Gender Identity (Watson, Mary Ann, Ph.D, streaming)

Many people confuse the concepts of sexual orientation and gender identity. Gender identity is the term describing your sense of your gender expression - do you identify as male or female or both or neither? Matt and Denise are F to M and M to F persons who are transgendered. They give insight into their transitions and their lives. Cailynn and Chris use "gender queer" and "a gendered" to describe themselves. Where do you fit on the gender continuum?
