Music and Dance Library Orientation

Browsing--physical

Sometimes you're not exactly sure what you want--you just want to browse. But where to start? The items in the Music and Dance Library are cataloged beginning with categories ("classifications," in library lingo). If you want string quartet parts, for example, you can go to the place in the library where all the string quartets are shelved. But where is that? That's where classification numbers come in. The classification number for string quartets is M452. Within that classification the scores are grouped alphabetically by composers' last names. Go to that area in the library and you can browse all of our string quartets. Don't want string quartets? For more classification numbers, see the lists in the Instrument and Voice Guides.

Note: Please don't reshelve anything you've looked at; just place it all on a table and we'll take care of it.
