Major History Databases: Get Some Basic Data Here
There are two major databases for history:

America: History and Life: covers research on American and Canadian history in all time periods.

Historical Abstracts: covers historical research for the rest of the world, beginning around 1450 A.D.
These two databases are the only ones that allow searching BY TIME PERIOD.
For example: your topic is Spanish fashion in the 19th Century.
You might start by searching these two databases for: Spain and (fashion or dress or costume)
Once you have some search results, look at the Refine Results part of the left sidebar.
- Click Show More>> (right under the date slider)
- A pop-up window offers more search options.
- Look at the Historical Period section (see graphic above).
- Enter the appropriate years and eras.
- Click on the Search button.
Voila! Articles about 19th century Spanish fashion!
