Use the resources below to gather a better understanding about the companies in the candy and sugar confections industry.

Start by looking for information about the larger or publicly-held companies first, since it is a lot more challenging to find private company information. 

D&B Hoovers contains both public and private company information.  

  • If you are just getting started, try searching for a known large public company, such as The Hershey Company.
  • Once you have fully  researched a known company, look at the "Competitors" section to find additional companies to research.

You can also search by industry to find a list of industry participants.

  1. Select "Search Industries" in the search menu in the top-right of the page to look for terms such as "candy," "confectionery," "chocolate," "gum," etc.  
  2. Choose an industry to find an industry summary, news, some market research reports, and a list of industry participants. 
  • Mergent Market Atlas offers extensive and detailed information about public companies.
  • Search for public companies in the industry to gather company financials, supply chain, segmentation, and other information. 
  • Look under the Analysis tab to find a list of Industry Peers.
  • Nexis Uni is a great one-stop resource for a ton of company and industry information.
  • Start with the "Find a Company" link in the middle of the page to open the Company Dossier.
  • Start with a known public company first, such as The Hershey Company, to find company information, financials, news, competitors, legal cases.
  • Search by name of a known private company.
    • for example, World's Finest Chocolate.
  • Or use the search filter to screen for companies by keyword.
    • Try "Confectionery" as a keyword in the filter. 
  • Use Intelllect to create a list of companies in your industy.
  • Start by using the Industry Search tab and search for "candy" to find "2064 Candy and Other Confectionery Products."
  • Note that you may need to run similar searches to capture all of the available companies.
    • For example, The Heshey Company is defined by Mergent Intellet in the "Chcoloate and cocoa products" industry, so you would need to do a similar search as above for that industry.
