AI Tools by Use

Microsoft Copilot (https://copilot.microsoft.com). Free.

The protected version is free to the Ohio University community. To access this version you will need to login to the platform utilizing your university credentials (username and password combination). To confirm successful login, you will see a green “protected” icon on the top right hand corner of the screen.

  • Good for: human-computer interaction, answering quick questions, streamlining work, tutoring, creating images/content
  • Be mindful of: the open version of Microsoft Copilot uses data entry as part of training its algorithm
  • This version of Copilot provides enterprise-grade security, privacy, and compliance in which Microsoft labels “commercial data protection” when eligible users sign in with their OHIO account. Commercial data protection means user and organizational data are protected, prompts and responses are not saved, Microsoft has no eyes-on access, and chat data isn't used to train the underlying large language models. Upon logging in with your OHIO credentials you should see a green shield indicating protected in the top right corner of the screen.

  • Good for: Art & Design; offers layout, color, typography suggestions to streamline design process. A generative machine learning model to create, ideate, and edit images through text prompts. Firefly is best used for generating graphics.
  • Be mindful of: According to Adobes's published Privacy Notice and security standards, data entered into Firefly will cross national borders where privacy protections may be different; be mindful of copyright - not yet ready for commercial use; trained on Midjourney images (see below)

  • Good for: Art & Design; takes prompts (both written and from existing images) to create new art, logos, images, etc.. It uses a modified variation of ChatGPT.

  • Good for: Art & Design: Much like Adobe Firefly, image generator. A generative AI program to create images based on text prompts.
