Image from Ishtar GateThis Guide is designed for use by students in CLAR 2130: Near Eastern and Egyptian Archaeology, taught by Dr. Ruth Palmer. Its purpose is to provide resources and tips for doing research projects for this class.

Many of the resources listed here are limited to use by members of Ohio University. If you are using the Guide off-campus, you will need to do a brief login to identify yourself as a member of Ohio University before you can use them.

Library Search Catalog

Through our Library Search Catalog, you can search more than 200 databases all at the same time, including: 

  • All EBSCO databases that we have
  • All JSTOR journals that we have
  • Several newspaper databases
  • OHIO Library Catalog (books, videos, names of magazines, journals, and newspapers, and more)
  • ...and much more

The Library Search Catalog does not include everything. We subscribe to many other databases--including about two dozen from ProQuest--that are not included in the catalog. To find and use these, go to A to Z Databases -- or let us help you. 

ARTstor and Flickr

Artstor logoArtstor is an online repository of more than a million digital images relating to art history, covering a wide range of time periods and cultures. This is the major database for images of art objects. Thumbnail images from Artstor are included in ArticlesPlus, with links to the full records in Artstor itself.

There are a number of videos on Youtube which can help you learn to use ARTstor effectively.

Flicker logoFlickr is a vast photo-sharing site. You can search the whole site and/or explore some of the sections listed below (originally posted at AWOL: the Ancient World Online) which are devoted explicity to the ancient world.
