African Online Primary Sources

Guide to how and where to find Africa related online primary sources

Primary sources

A primary source is a piece of evidence, a first hand original account or record created at the time the event happened. Historians analyze this evidence about a person, place or event to learn and reach conclusions about the past.

Students can use primary sources to get a glimpse of the past beyond the textbook. A textbook is  a secondary source, that is a derived account from the original evidence.
