A database (also called an index) is a guide to the location of information. For our purposes, databases provide lists of scholarship about music and where to find it. Authors, titles, publishing information, abstracts, and more are usually included in an entry.

Please note that not all items found in online music databases are available in full text, but must be accessed in print.
