Tales From an AtticIn 1995, the state of New York shuttered the Willard Asylum for the Insane, which opened in 1869 on the shores of Seneca Lake. That spring, as staff members from the New York State Museum began assessing the hospital’s historic contents, a startling discovery was made: a cache of 427 dusty, moldy suitcases hidden in an attic. Belonging to patients who had lived at Willard, the suitcases contained all manner of personal effects, and soon, photographer Jon Crispin was engaged to document them.
