Library Resource Access

Having trouble accessing our e-resources?  Try these suggestions.

Are you starting at the Libraries home page?

In order to access databases and other electronic resources, you will need to log in through the Libraries web site. Here are examples of login screens for different library systems.

Note that even if you are on campus, you will need log in through the Libraries website. Going directly to a publisher or vendor website will not authenticate you as an OHIO user and you will not be able to access the resource.

Are you using your OHIO email address and password to log in?

In order to authenticate to electronic resources,  use the same  OHIO email and password you use to log into OHIO email, My Ohio and Blackboard.

If you don’t remember your OHIO email address or password, or find your password not working across university services, you may be able to reset it using the OHIO Office of Information Technology’s web page on My Ohio ID Account. Otherwise, contact the OHIO Office of Information Technology.

Zane State students use a different login procedure; see Zane State logins.

Are you eligible?

In general, only current OU students, employees, and emeriti can access databases and other electronic resources licensed to Ohio University Libraries.

Students must be enrolled in one or more specific classes or dissertation hours in the Student Information System for the current semester (or the upcoming semester during intersessions and summer). If you are being blocked from access for this reason, you can resolve the issue by enrolling in a single class or dissertation hour. If you just enrolled, it may take up to a day for library access to be granted. If your program requires you to complete a project before you are allowed to enroll in classes, contact Libraries staff.

Faculty and staff automatically get access. Temporary employees and others working in an employee capacity: please contact Libraries staff to request access.

Visiting scholars and emeriti: please contact Libraries staff to request access.

If you don’t fall into one of the above categories, access for the public is available at specific computers in Alden Library and the Music and Dance Library; ask at the Service Desk. Here are some other options for electronic access that don’t require travel to the library. You may also wish to see who is eligible for borrowing privileges and what that includes.

Note: Some electronic resources may be restricted to specific Ohio University campuses. If you are attempting to access a resource that is not licensed for your campus, you may not be granted access.

Still having problems?

Your current browsing session may be experiencing an error. Try the following:

  1. Visit both of the following web pages to log out of your library and Ohio University sessions:
    1. https://proxy.library.ohio.edu/logout
    2. https://cas.sso.ohio.edu/logout
  2. Restart your web browser.

You can also try using a private or incognito window in your web browser, or trying a different web browser than the one you normally use (such as FirefoxChrome, or Safari). This should allow you to use the Libraries’ services without interference from any old session cookies. If using a private or incognito window or different browser works, you may be able to solve the problem permanently in your regular browser by clearing your cookies.

Still having problems? If you are using a computer at work (other than at Ohio University), your employer may have a firewall in place which prevents you from using the Libraries’ services. Try using a computer outside of work, consult your employer, or contact the Libraries.

If you are still having difficulty with e-resource access, please contact Libraries staff.
