Milestone II for Guarantee + Biological Sciences -Reading and Using Citations

Finding information from a citation

Being able to interpret a citation and find the resource in the library is an important research skill in Biological Sciences. It allows you to track down resources from a reference list, in a bibliography, or from a listing in at the end of a journal article or in a book. The resources you locate can be used for research papers and lab reports in your courses.

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to read a citation and to locate a specific item in the Ohio University Libraries.

There are three steps to follow to locate an item. You can choose the link to move directly to that page:

1. Reading the citation to determine if it is an article, a book or a chapter in a book.

2. Choosing the essential citation information you need to locate the item..

3.Using Articlesplus or a subject database to search for and locate the item using the information you chose.

After finishing with part 3, you should complete and submit the Quiz - Test Your Knowledge. That will complete Milestone 2.
