The Southern Poverty Law Center has identified 1,500 separate Civil War monuments within the United States and has a timeline of their construction and even a U.S. map which identifies each individual monument.

The American Historical Association, a national professional organization for historians, has provided a specific statement regarding the continuing debates over the monuments and delineating the differences between history and memorialization.
