Medline Plus logoMedlinePlus is a website created for consumers by the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health.  It is a free health information website that health care providers recommend for health information.

The Drugs, Herbs and Supplements section contains information on prescription drugs, dietary supplements and herbal information.


Natural Standard logoThe Natural Standard Database prepares all healthcare providers- nursing, pharmacy, nutrition and medical school students to communicate with patients concerning their use of herbal therapies, dietary supplements, vitamins, minerals, modalities (such as yoga, acupuncture), special diets, nutrition, preventive medicine, genetic testing, and other integrative treatments to help achieve better overall health outcomes in practice. Can help answer questions such as:

  • Which dietary supplements alter blood glucose levels?

  • Are natural products safe to take with chemotherapy?

  • Can herbals interfere with drug metabolism?

  • Which natural products clear through breast milk? 


Health Source: Consumer and Nursing/Academic Editions provide information on how to explain supplements and over-counter drugs to consumers and as well as clinical information on prescription drugs in a concise way. You can search both at once by choosing both databases before you search!
