Citing data is just as important as citing information from articles and books. How to formulate the citation depends on your style guide. Many data providers will also suggest or recommend their preferred citation.
The general components of citing data:
- author
- title
- year of publication/dissemination
- publisher (for data this is often the archive that maintains it)
- edition or version
- access information (URL, DOI or other persistent identifier)
