Guidelines for Creating/Revising LibGuides

For OU librarians transitioning to LibGuides 2.

Don't Reinvent the Wheel!

Some time ago, we moved a lot of the “general” content from LibGuides to the main website. Among the topics covered on the main site are:

So, go ahead and link from your LibGuides to these (or other) pages on the main website. If there are errors of omission or commission on these general pages on the main website, please let the page or FAQ know, and (s)he can work at improving them.

To create this kind of link, use the PAGE dropdown menu and choose Redirect URL. Just add the URL and decide whether or not you want the link to open in a new window, and then Save.

As to internal links (from one LG2 page to another), here’s what Springshare recommends: note that the URL you’re editing under is http://ohiou.libapps.com and the current URL for our LG2 site is http://libguides.library.ohio.edu/. Neither of these is the final URL that the public will see. For the time being, use the complete URL (e.g., http://libguides.library.ohio.edu/c.php?g=17163&p=116476) as the target URL for your link. According to an email I got from Springshare Support on May 27, when we are ready to go live with our LG2 site, we will be able to use their new super duper Search and Replace feature (see the Tools menu) to change all these URLs site-wide.

Click on the "Sample Redirected Page" item in the menu to see how this works.
