RHE Librarians offer instruction for your face-to-face classes in addition to working with your online courses. Contact Haley Shaw to find out more and schedule instruction. If you have any research assignments for students or just want to provide them with some extra information about the library, we would be happy to come to your classes or invite your class to visit the library. Library staff can create a customized lesson that will fit into your class schedule and cover library topics specifically curated for your students.
Library instruction is extremely beneficial for students as it can help them feel more comfortable with research. It can also help them have a better understanding of information literacy, how to find peer reviewed resources, and understand how to utilize tools such as AI responsibly in their academic work. Additionally, it helps students gain awareness of the resources the library offers that can help them save money on accessing materials for courses.
The Zanesville Campus Library can help your students access course materials at no cost to them. If you have assigned reading materials such as textbooks or other course materials, you would like to make available in the library for your students please contact Kate Hoefler. We can put items on course reserve that are owned by Ohio University Libraries or your own personal copies. Digital reserves are also available for online courses.
Since both purchasing and scanning can take time, requests should be made as far in advance as possible to ensure timely availability. Please note the following:
Check to make sure your library owns the title requested before placing a request. OhioLINK items may not be put on reserve.
US Copyright law limits the amount of content we can scan from a single print work. We evaluate each request to determine where the limit applies. Typically, we are restricted to a few chapters/articles per book/journal issue. We are also limited to items owned by Ohio University Libraries or faculty-owned copies. We are unable to scan materials obtained via OhioLINK or ILL.
If dropping off physical items, please be sure to leave the item with a service desk staff member

Affordable learning helps reduce the cost of course materials for students by using low-cost or free resources to support courses.
Research is conclusive that students with financial needs sometimes forego purchasing required course materials even though they know it will impact their grades (Student PIRGs. (2021). Fixing the Broken Textbook Market, 3rd ed). University Librarians are available to help you identify affordable course materials for your students. Additional information is available on OhioLINK’s affordable learning website.
Open Educational Resources (OERs) are a great way to reduce costs for students while still providing high quality materials for your courses. To learn more about OERs and library services to help make our students’ education more affordable check out the OER web page on the OHIO Libraries website.
