Searching for Patents

Let's do a search for Thomas A. Edison's patent for the electric light bulb. In my pre-search I found out that in the late 1800s light bulbs were called electric lamps, so I'll use that term in my search.

Although there are other websites to search for patents, like the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or the World Intellectual Property Organization's (WIPO) PATENTSCOPE, the best place to find patents for this assignment is by using Google Patents:

Google Patents Image with "thomas edison electric lamp" typed in the search box.

NOTICE: I typed "thomas edison electric lamp" (without the quotation marks) in the search box and Google Patents suggested I use "electric lamp; Assignee: thomas edison;" (again, without quotation marks) and the patent I need is the third choice listed in the results.

You can see from the patent below that there is a lot of information regarding the technology I chose including Edison's claims of what it will do and additional information.
